534 Vietnam veterans to be honored through the In Memory program in 2019
VVMF’s In Memory program honors Vietnam veterans who returned home and later died as a result of their service. These veterans are not eligible for inscription on The Wall under Department of Defense guidelines. In Memory is a way that Vietnam veterans can be honored on the National Mall.
VVMF is proud to announce that we’ll be inducting 534 Vietnam veterans into the In Memory Honor Roll at our ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 15th. We look forward to honoring these veterans who returned home from Vietnam and later died as a result of their service. 2019 In Memory honorees will be added to VVMF’s virtual In Memory Honor Roll. Friends and family will be able to share remembrances on the individual’s page. Click here to see the Honor Roll.
The plaque that honors these veterans was dedicated as a part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial site in 2004. It reads:
In Memory of the men and women who served in the Vietnam War and later died as a result of their service. We honor and remember their sacrifice.
In Memory began in the 1990s and has honored more than 3,600 veterans.

Correction: An earlier version of this blog post stated that 529 Vietnam veterans would be honored through the 2019 In Memory program. That number has since changed to reflect 534 honorees as part of the 2019 program.
So many of our veteran’s have died from health complications, plus untreated PTSD disorders, through no fault of their own. Our government did not acknowledge any of this until recently?? GOD BLESS THEM ALL!! FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS, WITH MANY TEARS!!
Kathleen,
The In Memory program is not a government program. This was begun by a nonprofit to give recognition to those who passed away after they returned home from Vietnam. It began in 1993 and we took over the program in 1999. To learn more, visit: http://www.vvmf.org/InMemory
I am sorry, as I was expressing my frustration as to the way our government treats our veterans. VVMF is an amazing non-profit organization which I donate to. The “IN MEMORY’ program is a heartfelt way to pay tribute to those who passed after they returned home. It helps to honor and recognize these Vietnam Veterans, and also gives families and friends a chance to share their pain together. Our family will be registering to attend the 2020 “IN MEMORY” tribute, in honor of my brother-in-law Stephen D. Soldner, USN. who died from complications of exposure to Agent Orange.
Thank you for all that you do to help the veterans and their families.

You really should include my dad, David P White, on this list. He ended up with heart disease and lung cancer as a result of Agent Orange exposure during the Vietnam War. He received multiple People Hearts and a Bronze Star with Valor distinction. The lung cancer took his life in October 2015. I will try to get him honored next year. I’d like to give thanks to all who have served and those who continue to serve.
